“For more than 80 years, communities around the world have rallied around their Little League fields, providing countless children opportunities not just to play the games of baseball and softball, but to grow as individuals,” said Brian McClintock, Senior Executive, Communications. “We are honored to have the opportunity to spotlight the stories of teams, families, and pioneers that truly capture the heart of our organization and inspire the next generation of Little League families. We’re proud to have these projects recognized by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.”

In 2024, Little League concluded its year-long Girls with Game 50 Celebration, honoring 50 years of girls and women in its program with a five-part docuseries detailing the history and future of the Little League Softball® program. During the series, each episode highlights a different span of time that focuses on what was happening within the Little League program, as well as a variety of historical moments that have influenced the program and its development.
Why #11 Holds a Special Meaning to All Little Leaguers®
Category: Human-Interest Short Form
On September 11, 2001, at just 22 years old, Michael Cammarata ran into the World Trade Center as a sworn-in New York firefighter, saving countless lives before he was reported missing. A decade before the date of the attack, Cammarata wore No. 11 while playing right field in the 1991 Little League Baseball World Series as a South Shore (N.Y) Little Leaguer, coincidentally listing his name as “Cammarata 9/11” in the scorebook for his position and number.
With No. 11 now the only number retired at the LLBWS, as well as the East Region, this video shares the story of why the number means so much to Little Leaguers across the world, including 2024 LLBWS Mid-Atlantic Region participant, Tyler Neeld, his father, and great-grandfather.
“Why #11 Holds a Special Meaning to All Little Leaguers®” was produced in coordination with the Philadelphia-based video production company, 20/20 Visual Media, and received a Silver Telly at the 2025 Telly Awards.
In addition to Little League International’s nominations, WVIA was also nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy for their production of the 2024 Little League Challenger Exhibition game in the Human Interest – Long Form category. The awards recognize incredible achievements in the television and digital media industry in the Chapter’s designated award region, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Wheeling, West Virginia, and Steubenville, Ohio. They will be presented on September 20 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
