Little League SAFE is Little League’s updated approach to safety. It provides leagues with clear guidance, training, and tools to help keep players safe and support volunteers throughout the season.
What is Little League® SAFE?
For nearly 30 years, Little League’s A Safety Awareness Program (ASAP) has set the standard for safety across local leagues, reducing injuries and strengthening volunteer readiness. Building on that success, Little League has launched two new initiatives, Little League SAFE and SAFE to Play.
Little League SAFE brings together trusted safety resources to help leagues provide a safe, positive, and consistent experience for players, volunteers, and families. Safety is a shared responsibility, and SAFE supports leagues in building a strong, informed approach to safety at every level of the game.
SAFE provides education, tools, and resources to help leagues build and maintain safer programs, while SAFE to Play establishes annual compliance requirements and a recognition structure that measures participation and rewards achievement.

SAFE Pillars
Organized around four core safety pillars, SAFE offers practical guidance, training, and best practices that protect children, promote physical safety, support mental well-being, and strengthen responsible league operations. Together, these resources help leagues prepare volunteers, support players, and foster an environment where kids can learn, grow, and enjoy the game throughout the season.
Child protection focuses on creating safe, respectful environments where players are protected and supported. Clear expectations, education, and engaged volunteers all play an important role in keeping kids safe.
Physical safety focuses on preventing injuries, preparing for emergencies, and maintaining safe playing environments. Proper equipment, safe facilities, and informed volunteers all play an important role in supporting safe play.
Mental well-being focuses on creating a positive environment where players feel respected, supported, and encouraged.
Managing risk helps leagues plan ahead, operate responsibly, and respond effectively when unexpected situations arise.

SAFE Training Courses
The safety and well-being of all participants in the Little League® program continues to be a top priority, and creating a safe, positive environment is a shared responsibility. Each season, leagues and volunteers play an important role in identifying risks, preparing for emergencies, and supporting a fun and consistent experience for players and families.

The Little League Safety Awareness Course provides volunteers with a broad overview of key safety concepts and best practices that support safe league operations. Designed specifically for the Little League program, this course helps volunteers better understand their role in promoting safety, recognizing potential hazards, and supporting a strong culture of safety throughout the season.

The Little League First Aid Awareness Course is designed to introduce volunteers to common injuries, basic first aid principles, and important response considerations specific to the Little League environment. This course is not a certification program, but it provides practical awareness and guidance to help volunteers recognize injuries, respond appropriately, and understand when additional medical care may be needed.
