Thanks to the generous donation of $50,000 from an individual who had a memorable Little League® experience and wanted to benefit the Little Leaguers® in their community.
The seven leagues that received funding through this generous donation are:
- Columbus (Ga.) American Little League
- Columbus Northern Little League (Midland, Ga.)
- Gibson Little League (Buena Vista, Ga.)
- Harris County Little League (Hamilton, Ga.)
- Peach Little League (Columbus, Ga.)
- Pioneer Little League (Columbus, Ga.)
- Sally Little League (Columbus, Ga.)
All leagues in District 8 had the opportunity to submit a grant application and share how they planned to use the grant support. While all seven leagues chose to use the grant support in different ways, the decision-making process was influenced by a universal mindset – children first. Columbus American LL and Columbus Northern LL both focused on enhancements to their facilities to make the fields safer, enhancing the playing experience for the Little Leaguers. This included repairing broken sprinklers, placing new sod on infields, and purchasing utility vehicles to support day-to-day operations to lighten the physical burden on volunteers. Meanwhile, as a league going into its second season in a small, rural community, Gibson LL will focus its funds on covering traditional operating costs as the league continues to grow.
Columbus Northern LL – Before and After Field Renovations
Several local league officials and board members shared what this unprecedented support has meant to the Little Leaguers, families, and volunteers ahead of the 2026 season:
- “This purchase improves field readiness, reduces volunteer workload, and helps us respond more efficiently during practices, games, and events. By easing the physical burden on our volunteers and improving the overall experience for players and families, the grant directly contributes to creating the same memorable, well‑run environment that defines Little League. This support reaffirmed that our efforts matter and that others believe in the value of Little League just as much as we do. It has strengthened our operations and allowed us to make improvements that would not have been possible otherwise.” – Matt Samson, Columbus American Little League President
- “We want to provide kids a league to play in that they can be proud of, but we know that doesn’t come without community involvement and funding. We are truly grateful to be benefactors of this generous donation. Having this grant offset the much-needed field maintenance costs will allow us to pursue other projects at our league. Showing pride in our league and park is one of our top priorities. With the upkeep that we are completing, this financial support makes it that much easier.” – Jason Burdette, Columbus Northern Little League President
- “As a new league, these are foundational and necessary expenses — but they also directly impact the experience of our players. Because of this support, our children step onto the field properly uniformed and equipped, which builds pride, confidence, and a true sense of belonging. By covering these essential costs, we can keep participation accessible for families while still delivering a safe, high-quality Little League experience from the very beginning.” – Karmen Briggs, Gibson Little League Marketing and Public Relations Manager
- “This support means an incredible amount to our league, our volunteers, and especially the hundreds of young players and families we serve here in Columbus, Georgia. Thanks to this individual’s generosity, we can continue delivering the core Little League values of community, fun, integrity, inclusion, and teamwork to our local youth. We are truly honored to be part of the Little League family and deeply appreciate the commitment Little League International makes to supporting programs like ours across the country. Your partnership helps make baseball and softball accessible and enjoyable for kids who might otherwise miss out.” – Shaun O’Hara, Peach Little League President
