EAST REGION TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Little League Baseball® Eastern Region Tournament was played in a number of locations throughout the northeast from 1957 through 1976. Following a 10-year stint in Newburgh, NY (1977 through 1986), the tournament moved to its permanent home of Bristol, CT in 1987.

Little League® International selected Bristol as the location for the Little League® Eastern Region Headquarters. The Bartlett Giamatti Little League® Leadership Training Center was dedicated on June 19, 1993. Named for the former president of Yale University and Major League Baseball Commissioner, this full-time headquarters provides support for the world’s largest region of Little League® Baseball and Softball. Approximately 700,000 boys and girls participate in approximately 1,700 Little League® programs in the East Region. This facility hosts several clinics and schools throughout the year, training adult volunteers in the leadership skills necessary to operate successful Little League® programs and provide an enjoyable and educational playing experience to Little Leaguers®. Beyond a year-round administrative office, the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League® Leadership Training Center boasts dormitories, a kitchen and dining facility, a recreation building, batting cages and three practice fields. Breen Field is the crown jewel of the facility, hosting every game of the baseball and softball regional tournaments. In 2012, Breen Field underwent an extensive resurfacing project. The field was rebuilt, the outfield fences were moved to 225 feet and an LED scoreboard and new lights were installed.

A single East Region champion was crowned through 2000. In 2001, an expansion of the Little League Baseball® World Series led to a two tournament format in Bristol. The East Region now hosts two tournaments concurrently: The New England Regional Tournament and The Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. Each tournament sends a representative to the Little League Baseball® World Series. The 2016 Mid-Atlantic Champions Maine-Endwell Little League from Endwell, NY won the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series. This was the first champion from the Eastern Region since Toms River East American Little League from Toms River, NJ won in 1998. Little League® International moved all Little League Softball® Regional Tournaments to Little League® owned and operated regional facilities around the United States: Bristol, CT (East Region), Indianapolis, IN (Central Region), San Bernardino, CA (West Region), Waco, TX (Southwest Region) and Warner Robins, GA (Southeast Region). The tournament was held in Albany, NY prior to the move to the Giamatti Center in Bristol, CT.
