Little League® International mourns the passing of Darlene McLaughlin, a longtime volunteer and former Canada Field Director (2012 to 2015) on the Little League International Board of Directors.
A dedicated asset to the Board of Directors, McLaughlin was committed to helping bring the mission of the organization to life in not only her community but also communities all around the world.
A former Little Leaguer® herself, McLaughlin played Little League Baseball® in a local league in Chateauguay, Quebec, just outside Montreal. Years later, she returned to the program when her son, Mark, began playing in Calgary (Alberta) Continental West Little League at age 5.
After three years as the League Secretary, McLaughlin transitioned to League President, a position she remained in for 18 months. In 1996, McLaughlin began a seven-year tenure as the Assistant District Administrator for Alberta District 8 and was later elected to step up to the plate as the District Administrator. McLaughlin also served on the board of Little League Canada, Little League Alberta, and the Alberta Amateur Baseball Council.
McLaughlin’s service to Little League was driven by her unwavering commitment to the children in her communities.
“For me, children are what gets you started, community is what keeps you going, and the love of the game stays forever,” said McLaughlin.
McLaughlin was always there to provide support and mentorship to her leagues and district board. Everyone knew if she took on a task, the job would get done. She was an incredible person of integrity and caring, and will be missed by many.
McLaughlin is survived by her husband, Gary, son Mark, daughter-in-law Debbie, and grandchildren Cole, Myles, and Georgia.
