Little League® International Mourns the Passing of Former Indiana District 14 Administrator, Peggy Petko

Little League® International mourns the passing of Peggy Petko, former Indiana District 14 Administrator. She was 71.

Mrs. Petko, a native of Florence, Ala., first volunteered with East End Little League in Mishawaka, Ind., and is credited with founding the league’s softball program and overseeing the development of the league’s softball field, which bears her name. She coached baseball and softball, served on the league’s Board of Directors, and was elected its first female president.

Continuing his volunteer commitment to the Little League program, Mrs. Petko joined the Indiana District 14 staff. She was elected District 12 Administrator in 1977, serving in that capacity until 2002 – a term of 25 years.

Mrs. Petko was preceded in death by her mother, Julie Alice Gates; father, Glenn Lee Layne; husbands Mryth Ringen and Emery S. Petko; sisters, Rosemary Kuret, Thelma Lee Layne and Estell Hancock; and brothers, Glenn Lee “Junior” Layne and Laymond Layne. She is survived by her children James “Greg” Petko and Stacy Reisdorf; sister, Dottie Koutoukis, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
