At The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation, we believe that sports make people better. Sports build character, increase confidence, motivate kids to stay in school and aim for higher education; teaching life lessons that extend well beyond the playing field.
- In 2014, The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation launched its Sports Matter program to help bring awareness of the importance of sport and the lack of opportunities that many kids have to play.
- But we know that not all kids begin at the same starting line. Race, gender, and income all impact a kid’s opportunity to play.
- For the past six years, we have made it our mission to inspire and enable sports participation through donations to under resourced youth sports organizations. In 2019, we made a commitment to give 1 million kids a chance to play by 2024. Meeting that goal in 2021, we increased that goal to 2 million kids by 2024.
In 2017, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation made a five-year, $500,000 commitment to Little League Baseball and Softball. Little League has always desired to utilize the funds to support pressing and relevant needs of local leagues. Through grants and other support we’ve helped 501c3 organizations, schools, and community teams across all 50 states provide opportunities for youth to play sports. But not everyone has the same access to play sports.
