Warren, Ark., Volunteer, Travis Young, Sr., Elected as Southwestern Region Representative to the Little League® International Board of Directors

At the 2016 Little League® Southwest Regional Roundtable in San Antonio, Texas, Travis Young, Sr., Arkansas District 3 Administrator, was nominated for election to the Little League International Board of Directors. Upon approval, Mr. Young, a 39-year Little League volunteer, will assume his seat at the November 2016 Board of Directors Meeting, succeeding Joe Patterson, Texas District 31 Administrator from Seguin, Texas, as the Southwestern Region Representative to the Board.

“Little League International has greatly benefited from Joe’s three years of service on the Board of Directors, and his leadership in Texas provided countless opportunities for children to have a meaningful Little League experience,” said Davie Jane Gilmour, Ph.D., Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “We look forward to Travis bringing his experience and voice to the Board, as we continue to work to maintain Little League as the world’s best youth sports organization.”

Mr. Young, 62, has served in many positions during his nearly 40 years as a Little League volunteer, spending the past 24 years as District Administrator. A state electrical inspector for the Arkansas Department of Labor, Mr. Young has also previously served on the Little League International President’s Advisory Board. There are seven local Little League programs in Mr. Young’s district. His nomination is subject to the approval of the current Board of Directors, who will vote on his appointment at their April 2016 meeting. If approved, Mr. Young will serve a 4-year term.

“Little League is the best youth baseball and softball program in the world,” said Mr. Young. “I am looking forward to working with my fellow Board members to get more people involved with Little League. Every kid should play Little League.”

The Little League District Administrator (D.A.) is the highest-level volunteer position within the organization. In addition to helping with the day-to-day operations of the local Little League programs within their district and organizing district-wide tournaments, D.A.s act as the liaison between Little League International and local league volunteers, parents, and players. There are nine positions for Regional Representatives to the Little League International Board of Directors, to represent Little League’s five United States regions and four international regions.
