Three New Members Elected to the Little League® International Board of Directors

2020 New Board of Directors

During its annual fall meeting in November 2020, three new members were elected to the Little League® International Board of Directors.

Joining the Board as the newest Regional Field Directors for a four-year term will be Tom Edge (Southwest Region – Texas District 17), Serafin Gomez III (Latin America Region – Mexico District 18), and Phil Rizzo (Central Region – Illinois District 13), succeeding Travis L. Young Sr. (Warren, Arkansas), Antonio J. Gonzalez (Cayey, Puerto Rico), and Shannon Walker (Newark, Ohio), respectively, who have concluded their four years of service on the Board.

“On behalf of the Little League International Board of Directors, I would like to thank Travis, Antonio, and Shannon for their commitment, dedication, and service these past four years and congratulate Tom, Serafin, and Phil on their well-deserved election to our Board,” said Hugh E. Tanner, Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “As we move into the next chapter of the Little League story, we look forward to the insight, expertise, and knowledge that these three dedicated volunteers will bring to the organization and are excited to see what the future holds.”

Tom Edge (Pasadena, Texas)

A Little League volunteer for more than five decades, Mr. Edge has served as a District Administrator (D.A.) in Texas District 17 for the past 13 years. Prior to serving as the D.A., Mr. Edge spent 25 years as an Assistant District Administrator (A.D.A.) and served eight years as a local league volunteer, including four years as a manager, at Pasadena (Texas) Little League. Along with his Little League Board service, Mr. Edge has also served as the President of the Pasadena Umpire Association, was a member of the Southwest Baseball Umpire Association, and served as the scheduler for the Southwest Football Official Association.

Serafin Gomez III (Reynosa, Mexico)

A Little League volunteer for the past 22 years, Mr. Gomez has spent 21 of those years as the D.A. for Mexico District 18. As part of his role, he served on the International Advisory Board in 2010 and is a member of the Mexico National Board as a coordinator for the 7- to 8-year-old division. In addition to his service at the District level and above, Mr. Gomez has also served as the League President and a volunteer coach for Guadalupe Treviño Kelly Little League in Reynosa, Mexico.

Phil Rizzo (Hoffman Estates, Illinois)

Mr. Rizzo has been a Little League volunteer for more than 30 years, including 18 years as the D.A. in Illinois District 13. Prior to being elected as D.A., Mr. Rizzo spent three years as an A.D.A. and also served as a local league official for 12 years. In addition to his role as a league official, Mr. Rizzo spent 10 years as a local league manager.

The management of the property and business affairs of Little League Baseball®, Incorporated, is vested in the International Board of Directors. The Board has the control of the corporation and the power to appoint such standing committees as it shall determine and to delegate such responsibilities as it shall deem advisable.

Nine members of the Board are Field Directors. Each represent one of Little League’s nine regions and are nominated by their peers for election to four-year terms by their region’s District Administrators. The members of the Little League International Board of Directors are volunteers in this service to Little League. They receive no compensation for their dedicated work on behalf of the program and the children of the world.
