Little League® International Establishes New Little League Softball® Volunteer of the Year Award

To honor those who have provided dedicated service to developing Little League Softball® programs around the world, Little League® International announced today the establishment of the Little League Softball Volunteer of the Year Award.

Little League International annually recognizes the local Little League volunteers and players through its awards program. The new Little League Softball Volunteer of the Year award joins the Volunteer of the Year, Good Sport, Mom of the Year, Howard and Gail Paster Little League Urban Initiative Volunteer of the Year, and Challenger Awards in Little League’s yearly honors. The recipients of each of these awards are recognized during a special on-field ceremony at the Little League Baseball® World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.

“The Little League Softball program provides hundreds of thousands of girls the opportunity to learn leadership, teamwork, and commitment,” said Davie Jane Gilmour, Ph.D., Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “These skills are so important today, and often young girls don’t have that opportunity to learn. We are proud to establish this new award to recognize those adult volunteers who are dedicating their time, expertise, and energy to provide the girls in their community the opportunity to learn these lessons on the Little League Softball field.”

The Little League Softball Volunteer of the Year Award will recognize an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to developing a Little League softball program in their community or district. The individual should be an active Little League volunteer in good standing, who is committed to the ideals and goals of the Little League program. An online submission form for the Little League Softball Volunteer of the Year Award, as well as Little League’s other five volunteer and player awards can be found on LittleLeague.org/Awards.

“There are so many hardworking volunteers within the Little League Softball program that are committed to providing a great experience for the female athletes in their leagues and districts,” said Sara Thompson, Little League Director of Softball Development. “These are the unsung heroes of Little League. While softball volunteers have always been, and will continue to be eligible for the Little League Volunteer of the Year Award, we’re honored to shine the spotlight on their achievements and dedication to their local softball program through this new award.”
