As the world’s largest and most trusted organization continues to invest in the youngest level of play and grow the next generation of Girls with Game®, Little League® put its youngest softball players in the spotlight on Wednesday, August 5, with the first-ever Tee Ball Experience as part of the 2026 Little League Softball® World Series, Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.
“We know that a player’s first experience in softball is vital for them to continue in the sport,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League President and CEO. “As we focus on the future of our organization, we are going to continue to use our research to spotlight and evolve our tee ball program, especially in the softball space, to help keep girls playing longer.”
Held just beyond left field at Stallings Stadium at Elm Street Park, the event celebrates the beginning of every Little League Softball journey by providing Tee Ball players with a memorable experience alongside current Little League Softball World Series participants and professional athletes from the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL).
“The Little League Softball World Series is where dreams come true for young athletes from around the world, and we’re excited to create an opportunity for our youngest players to see what’s possible through the game of softball,” said Ashlea Miller, Little League Director of Softball Development and LLSWS Tournament Director. “This experience is about inspiring the next generation, celebrating the fun of Tee Ball, and creating memories that will encourage these players to continue their Little League journey for years to come.”
The historic event featured players from two local communities in North Carolina, with players representing both Pitt County Girls Softball Little League and South Durham Little League, elevating the core values of community and fun on the biggest stage in youth sports. Since bringing the LLSWS to Greenville, the organization has seen a tremendous growth of softball interest in the surrounding communities of North Carolina, showcased this year with the first ever appearance by Johnston County Little League at the LLSWS this year.
Following team check-in and introductions, participants rotated through a series of fun, fast-paced stations, including:
- Team chants and cheers
- Hitting
- Throwing
- Base running
The morning concluded with a full inning of Tee Ball before participants made their way to the main stadium for special on-field introductions prior to the day’s Little League Softball World Series action.
In addition to being a day full of fun and excitement, this first-ever Tee Ball Experience reflects Little League’s continued commitment to growing softball participation by providing positive, memorable experiences for players at every stage of their development. Little League International’s proprietary research shows the importance of providing distinct Tee Ball Softball experiences and providing a player development pathway is vital in keeping girls in sport.
By connecting Tee Ball players with World Series participants and professional role models, the event reinforces the lifelong friendships, confidence, and love of the game that begin in Little League.
