Cayey, Puerto Rico Volunteer Antonio Gonzalez Elected to Little League® International Board of Directors

At the Latin America Regional Meeting, Antonio J. Gonzalez of Cayey, Puerto Rico, was nominated for election to the Little League® International Board of Directors. There are nine positions for Regional Representatives to the Little League International Board of Directors to represent Little League’s five United States regions and four international regions. Mr. Gonzalez, a 21-year volunteer, including seven years of service as a District Administrator, will assume his seat at the November 2016 Board of Directors Meeting. He will succeed Dr. Noel Corrales, of Guatemala City, Guatemala, who serves as the District Administrator for Guatemala, as the representative for the Latin American Region.

“Antonio is a dedicated volunteer, and we are very much looking forward to working with him as a member of our International Board of Directors,” said Davie Jane Gilmour, Ph.D., Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “His years of service to Little League as a coach, manager, league president and District Administrator give him profound knowledge of many of the important roles within the organization.”

Mr. Gonzalez, 42, has spent seven years as Puerto Rico District 14 Administrator. The Little League District Administrator is the highest-level volunteer position within the organization. In addition to helping with day-to-day operations of the local Little League programs within their district and organizing district-wide tournaments, D.A.s act as the liaison between Little League International and local league volunteers. Mr. Gonzalez also serves as the team interpreter for the Caribbean Region Champion at the Little League Baseball World Series.

“It’s a pleasure to serve as a volunteer in an organization that supports children and families the way Little League does,” said Mr. Gonzalez. “As a Board member, I look forward to continuing to contribute to the many successes of Little League International.”

Mr. Gonzalez was president of the Roberto Rivera Miranda League in Cayey, Puerto Rico for five years and was a five-year manager and four-year coach within that organization. Mr. Gonzalez’s involvement with Little League began as a player, where he played for 12 years at various levels.

Mr. Gonzalez is an Engineering Supervisor for the Municipality of Cayey, and has worked in that role for 14 years. He is graduate of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayague where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Board of Engineers and won the Emergent Engineer Award in 2010.
