Little League Abuse Awareness Training FAQs

While much of the content and learnings may be similar to other courses, including the USA Baseball Abuse Awareness Training for Adults, the new Little League Abuse Awareness Course is customized for Little League volunteers, making it an optimal experience for those who take it while providing an easier user experience for all our volunteers.

Any individual who applies to be a Little League volunteer (e.g. coach, manager, concession manager, team mom, League President, etc.) is required to complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Course in addition to all other requirements of being a volunteer (e.g. submitting a background check through JDP). As a reminder, this course must be completed on an annual basis along with the annual background check before that individual may begin their volunteer service.

Yes. While not required to complete it, parents are encouraged to take the Little League Abuse Awareness Course to help protect the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our participants.

The Little League Abuse Awareness Training can be completed in as quickly as 45 minutes, but volunteers are encouraged to take as much time as needed to ensure all the information is read and understood. Along with the information in the course itself, additional resources are available for volunteers to further their understanding at LittleLeague.org/ChildProtectionProgram.

No. One of the benefits of the Little League Abuse Awareness Course is that it is housed in the same learning management system as other Little League trainings (e.g. Diamond Leader), meaning that once you have signed up to complete any one of those courses, you are ready to begin taking this course. After you complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Course, we encourage you to explore all the other offerings available at LittleLeague.org/Training.

No, the program does not need to be completed in one session. We understand how busy our volunteers are and want to ensure that they have the best opportunity to learn the information provided and take time to look through the resources available through this program. If not completed in one session, it is strongly recommended that the volunteer sets a reminder to go back and finish the program as it is a requirement to complete before being eligible to volunteer.

Yes, completion of the Little League Abuse Awareness Course is required on an annual basis.

After you take the course, you will be emailed your Certificate of Completion. You can also access your certificate from your learner dashboard.

Completion of the Little League Abuse Awareness Course is valid for the season in which the course was taken and must be completed on an annual basis. Similar to background checks, which must be completed annually through JDP, the certificate will expire on October 1 each year.

You will not be allowed to volunteer in any Little League activities until you have completed the course. It is encouraged that volunteers complete the training as soon as possible once their volunteer applications are submitted in order to be eligible to volunteer as soon as the background check is approved.

It is the League President’s responsibility to ensure all volunteers have completed the program in order to confirm their eligibility. Anyone who does not complete the course will not be allowed to volunteer in any Little League activities.

Upon completion of the program, volunteers are strongly encouraged to share their completion certificate with their League President. Finally, we encourage our District Administrators to help support their League Presidents in ensuring all volunteers complete their training each year prior to beginning any Little League activities.
