Little League® Remembers Greg Bzura, Longtime Volunteer and Former Junior League Baseball World Series Director

Little League® International mourns the passing of Greg Bzura (pictured right, alongside his son, Dan), a longtime Little League volunteer and former Director of the Junior League Baseball World Series (JLBWS), who passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026.

“A dedicated volunteer to the Little League program, Greg served as role model for what we hope all our Little League volunteers are for their communities,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League President and CEO. “His passion for the program was instrumental in bringing the Junior League Baseball World Series to Taylor and his impact has been felt by the countless coaches, players, and volunteers from all over the world who have experienced the event. While we are all saddened by his loss, we are all grateful for the memories we hold from our time spent with him over the years.”

Throughout his service to the local community, Bzura managed to accumulate a number of impressive achievements. He has sat on the City of Taylor (Mich.) City Council, been enshrined in both the Taylor and Wyandotte sports halls of fame, and served as the only Tournament Director for the JLBWS since he helped establish the event in 1981.

In August 2022, after nearly 60 years as a Little League volunteer and more than 40 years at the helm of the event, Greg finally stepped down from his position as tournament director for the JLBWS, a volunteer-led position, turning it over to his son, Dan. Greg spent nearly half of his adult life in or around the Taylor South Little League Complex, transforming the JLBWS from a four-team American tournament into a 12-team international event with the 40th edition of the tournament being that summer.

As part of his retirement celebration that year, then-President and CEO, Steve Keener, made a trip to Taylor to present a recognition award to Greg alongside his daughter-in-law, Cori, his sons, Dan and Phil, granddaughter, Lindsey, and grandson, Matthew.
