SOUTHWEST WINS BIG LEAGUE SOFTBALL WORLD SERIES, DEFEATS WEST 9-1

Lacey Hill came close to history, but a single by Nicolle Sierra broke up her no-hit bid in the seventh inning.

It didn’t matter as Hill led Southwest to a 9-1 win over West in seven innings on Sunday at Bruce Layton Field.

Hill shut down West while she was in the circle. Hill gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out five during her seven innings of work.

Southwest beat West thanks to eight hits, including four extra base hits. Southwest scored three runs in the sixth on Southwest scored in the sixth on a two-run single by Tori Dennis and a groundout by Rebecca Skains.

Skains racked up four RBIs on two hits for Southwest.

Mckenzie Draper ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

The game’s last lead went to Southwest thanks to a first inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on a three-run home run by Skains.
