Little League® International mourns the passing of Charles Roberts, former Pennsylvania District 24 Administrator. He was 90.
Mr. Roberts, a native of Minersville, Pennsylvania, attended Minersville High School, graduating in 1950. He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran (1953-54).
Professionally, Mr. Roberts was employed as the Shipping Manager for Canoe Manufacturing in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, and later worked as a guard at the Schuylkill County (Pennsylvania) prison.
A volunteer in many social organizations, Mr. Robert’s service to the Little League program began at the local level in 1956 with the Minersville Little League and concluded with 25 years as Pennsylvania Assistant District 24 Administrator (1972-to-1997), and another 17 years as the District 24 Administrator (1997-to-2014). Mr. Roberts was also a long-time Little League umpire and was selected to officiate in the 1995 Little League Softball World Series played in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
In 1996, Mr. Roberts was inducted in the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, after serving 28 years as a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) baseball and softball umpire and basketball official.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Helen Ann; daughters, Colleen, and Karen; son, Charles; four grandchildren; and his sister, Jean. He was predeceased by his parents, Evan, and Mary.
