Don Soucy, Little League® Eastern Region Director, has announced his retirement after more than 25 years of service at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, Conn.

“Don has been an exemplary Little League Eastern Region Director and our program has benefited greatly from his leadership. I know he’s looking forward to enjoying a well-deserved retirement with his family,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “We have the utmost confidence in Corey Wright as he assumes the Region’s leadership role and anticipate a very bright future under his direction.”

Starting February 1, Mr. Soucy will take on a role as a Senior Advisor for the Eastern Region until his official retirement in June, and Assistant Region Director Corey Wright will be named the new Eastern Region Director.

“There is not a person on the complex that doesn’t know who Don is and when the teams come into Bristol, they know who he is,” said Mr. Wright. “He’s very well respected within the community, not only in the Little League family, but overall. His impact will be forever felt.”

Don Soucy

Mr. Soucy has served as the Eastern Region Director since 1991 where he has been a vital role in the construction and operation of the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center, the development of more than 2,000 leagues across 11 states in the Eastern Region, and the training, education, and mentoring of dedicated coaches and volunteers for more than 25 years.

“I can’t think of two weeks out of 25 years that I got up in the morning and said I really don’t want to go to work every day,” said Mr. Soucy. “I love going to work. I love Little League. But it’s time to pass the torch, and I know that Corey will do a fantastic job leading this region and assisting our great volunteers.”

During his tenure working as Eastern Region Director, Mr. Soucy has been named to the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors, served as the Bristol Hospital Corporator, a member of the Bristol Historical Society, Board of Directors of the Bristol Exchange Club, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce. Along with his dedicated efforts to the members of the Little League program and the city of Bristol, Mr. Soucy has established a strong relationship with the Bristol Parks and Recreation department with Little League’s partial funding of the construction of The Malone Pool, which offers high school swim teams an indoor pool for practice and swim meets.

Of all his accomplishments during his time in Bristol, Mr. Soucy takes the greatest pleasure in knowing that the vast majority of the Giamatti Center’s part-time summer personnel have entered into successful careers of their own as CPAs, doctors, lawyers, policemen, television executives, managing editors, investment bankers, teachers, real estate agents, business owners, and more.

“I have to give it to the volunteers, they were the team,” said Mr. Soucy. “We have had wonderful young people that have worked for us over the years, and I think that is my greatest bit of pride. I believe that the Little League culture that they were exposed to on a daily basis helped them understand the importance of community spirit and they carried that through their college years and into their adult and family lives.”

Corey Wright

A native of South Williamsport, Mr. Wright began his Little League career in 1991 as a junior in high school when he served as a coach and Assistant Director for Little League Baseball summer camps before being hired in 2000 by Mr. Soucy to serve as the Assistant Eastern Region Director in Bristol.

“It’s truly an honor to be given the opportunity to become the new Eastern Region Director of Little League Baseball and Softball,” said Mr. Wright. “I have sincerely enjoyed my employment with Little League over the past 16 years as the Assistant Director and have grown professionally under the tutelage of Don Soucy. I am extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn and work with Don in the operation of the Eastern Region, and I look forward to continuing our work in support of the great local league efforts throughout our region.”

Along with his daily responsibilities in Bristol, Mr. Wright has served as a dedicated mentor and resource for local leagues and districts throughout the Eastern Region. Prior to his position at the Giamatti Center, Mr. Wright served as a mathematics teacher at Roosevelt Middle School in Williamsport from August 1997 to 2000. He graduated from Clarion (Pa.) University with a degree in education in 1996.

“I very much look forward in continuing to work alongside a great staff and the tremendous amount of volunteers within the districts and local leagues,” added Mr. Wright. “I am excited for what lies ahead and remain committed to the outstanding future of this great program.”
