Little League® International mourns the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Alonso Perez Gonzalez, President of the Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE). He was 72.

A native of Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mr. Perez Gonzalez was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Mexican Army who served as the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) First Vice President and was previously elected as the Americas Continent (“Pan-Am Baseball Confederation”) President in 2015. With more than 30 years of service, Mr. Perez Gonzalez was a dedicated ambassador for the development of the sport of baseball across Mexico, and has organized several continental and world championships during that time.

On April 15, 2016, Mr. Perez Gonzalez joined together with Jose Maiz Garcia to sign a Collaboration Agreement with Mexico Little Leagues and FEMEBE in order to create a better relationship, enhance communication and integration, and help further the development of baseball in Mexico.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alonso’s family and friends, and the entire baseball community during this difficult time,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “Alonso was an influential leader who helped develop and organize the growth of baseball in not only Mexico, but around the world, for three decades and his dedication to the sport will never be forgotten.”
