2019 Little League Baseball World Series – August 15 – 25

Mexico Takes Over Against Canada, 5-0

Epitacio “Mala” Torres (Mexico) Little League came out victorious in its first game in the 2019 Little League Baseball® World Series, defeating Coquitlam (Canada) Little League, 5-0.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning, when the Mexico Region Champions took the lead, scoring one run. They continued to press forward, scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure their win. For the game, Epitacio “Mala” Torres Little League totaled two hits from Santiago Leija and Jesus Garza.

Dominating on the mound, Santiago pitched a complete game for Mexico, striking out 11 and walking only one. His defense behind him was solid, letting up no errors. Angel Castillo lead the team in defensive plays, completing 11.

LLBWS Tournament

Canada fought hard throughout the game, with two hits by Tai Freeman and Sean Duncan. Matt Shanley started on the mound, followed by Timmy Piatsen, and Brady Dorwart. Together, the pitchers combined to strike out 10 and walk five.

Mexico will face Japan in their next game in the tournament on Sunday, August 18 at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. Canada will continue its run in the tournament against Europe-Africa on Saturday, August 17 at 6 p.m. also at Volunteer Stadium.
