JDP Provides Listing of Individuals Deemed Ineligible by SafeSport and Pure Baseball
J.D. Palatine (JDP), the preferred background check provider of Little League® Baseball and Softball, offers additional data sources to assist your league or district with deciding which volunteers to appoint, including exclusion lists from the USA Baseball and the U.S. Center for SafeSport in their National Criminal Database.
In 2018, the “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017” became Federal law. The mission of the U.S. Center for SafeSport is to make the athlete’s well-being the centerpiece of our nation’s sports culture. All athletes deserve to participate in sports free from bullying, hazing, sexual misconduct, or any form of emotional, or physical abuse.
As the national governing body of baseball, USA Baseball created a program called Pure Baseball that is tailored for youth baseball groups. As a member of USA Baseball, Little League Baseball and Softball follows the guidelines of Pure Baseball, which includes excluding individuals that are on its ineligible list as well as other related guidelines outlined our LittleLeague.org.
Searching these databases does not require an additional check as they are part of the nationwide criminal background check conducted through Little League. JDP is the only background check provider that offers this search.
Possible matches are reviewed by the JDP compliance team and researched for identifiers linking the record to the possible volunteer. If a volunteer is identified as being on one of the exclusion lists, the applicant will be flagged, and a report will be generated to show the offense information. Please see the sample report below.
