The World of Little League® Museum and Official Store will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 13thannual Museum Day Live!

The initiative involves museums throughout the United States emulating the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based facilities, which offer free admission every day. Visitors are required to download a Museum Day Live! ticket, which can be found at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay.

Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums, and other cultural institutions, to provide visitors with insight and inspiration. The event represents a nationwide commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are.

Last year more than 200,000 people downloaded tickets for the Museum Day Live! event, and this year it is expected to attract more museum-goers than ever before.

Additionally, Museum Day Live! features special interactive lesson plans, created by Smithsonian in partnership with Microsoft using Minecraft: Education Edition, which will enhance the Museum Day Live! experience.

“Participating in Museum Day Live! is an opportunity for the World of Little League Museum to be involved on a national level,” said Lance Van Auken, Little League Vice President and Executive Director of the World of Little League Museum. “Museums are a vital part of our culture, and they help to preserve our heritage. The World of Little League Museum is how we tell the storied history of our program and we look forward to welcoming our guests on this special day.”

The World of Little League Museum reopened in 2013 after a $4.3 million renovation project. It is divided into six innings or galleries. Among the innings is an interactive section where visitors may time themselves running to first base and play as a catcher, outfielder and shortstop. Another inning is “The Road to Williamsport” and reveals what it takes to get to the Little League Baseball®World Series every August. Videos, programs and photographs of tournament teams are on display. The sixth inning highlights former Little Leaguers® who have become role models in the Little League® Hall of Excellence, the highest honor that Little League can bestow. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the artifacts and interactive exhibits of the Museum at no charge.

The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay. Visitors who present the ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on Saturday. Only one ticket per email is permitted. Additional information about Museum Day Live 2017 and a full list of participating museums and cultural institutions is available at the same site.

Children ages 5-12 are admitted for $2, and Seniors 62 and older are admitted for $3.
