Little League® International mourns the passing of Bertrum “Bert” Haag, who was a member of Carl E. Stotz’s Little League Founders Association. He was 93.
A native of Williamsport, Pa., born June 14, 1923, Mr. Haag was among the group of original Little League volunteers credited with supporting the efforts of Mr. Stotz after he established the first local Little League program. Each of Mr. Haag’s three sons played Little League.
A World War II veteran, serving in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Franklin Roosevelt, Mr. Haag worked professionally in Williamsport, as a tool supervisor for AVCO Lycoming, a subsidiary of Textron, Inc. Along with Mac McCloskey, he is credited with the development of the first electronic scoreboard.
Mr. Haag was quite proud to be a close friend of Mr. Stotz. He also was a Mason, and was a member of Ivy Lodge 397, F & A.M. and Williamsport Lodge 106, F & A.M, and the Williamsport Consistory.
Mr. Haag is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty; sons, Jerry, William, and James; daughter, Sandra; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
