LITTLE LEAGUE® INTERNATIONAL MOURNS THE PASSING OF LITTLE LEAGUE INTERMEDIATE (50/70) BASEBALL WORLD SERIES UMPIRE GREG HANDLEY

Little League® International mourns the passing of Oregon District 2 staff member and 2014 Little League Intermediate (50/70) Baseball World Series umpire Greg Handley. He was 51.

A native of Portland, Ore., Mr. Handley served as Oregon District 2’s Baseball Umpire Consultant and Tournament Umpire-In-Chief for the past 15 years. He also was an active Little League volunteer umpire in different levels of league play, including All-Star Tournament play at the District, State, Regional, and World Series levels.

Mr. Handley was selected and participated in the 2014 Little League Intermediate (50/70) Baseball World Series in Livermore, Calif.

Prior to his time on the District Staff, he held various positions with Centennial Little League, including coach, manager, umpire, Board Member, and Vice President. In January 2006, Mr. Handley was awarded the “Volunteer of the Year” Award for Oregon District 2, recognizing him for being an outstanding volunteer for youth baseball within the community.

Graduating from Portland’s Franklin High School in June 1981, Mr. Handley later attended Mt. Hood Community College from 1981 through 1983. He was employed by Cintas Corp., a specialized services company, located in Portland. He had been employed there for 11 years as a Sales and Service Representative for uniform laundry and safety mat services. His prior employment history included several years in the water treatment business working for Mt. Hood Chemical and Nalco and several more years in the auto accessory business working for N.W. Auto Accessories and Auto Accessories Distributing.

Greg is survived by his wife, Leanne, his sons Kyle and Jeffrey; his daughter Krista; his father Darrell Handley; stepmother Linda Handley; stepfather Lloyd Elliott; his brother Dan Handley; and sisters Lisa Stone, Regina Orling, Melissa Handley, and Robyn Lamm. Other family members include sisters and brother-in-laws, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
