Little League® International Honors the Memory of Little League Softball® World Series Umpire, Gary York

Little League® International remembers Gary York, a Little League Southeast Region volunteer and umpire for more than 20 years, who officiated games in the 2017 Little League Softball® World Series in Portland, Oregon. He was 59.

Mr. York, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, resided in Lakemont, Georgia, at the time of his passing. After graduating from Chattanooga’s Independent Christian School in 1981, Mr. York enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for 13 years. After relocating to Lakemont, Mr. York founded Lakemont Hoist and Welding and over 25 years, established a successful business that served communities throughout Rabun County, Georgia.

Umpiring baseball and softball in Rabun County Little League, Mr. York also spent time as League President.

Mr. York is survived by daughters, Katie, and Colby; mother, LeMerle; brother, Darrell; sister, Darla; grandsons, Rhett, and Rylan; and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife, Missy; and father, J.P.
