JDP Provides Listing of Individuals Deemed Ineligible by SafeSport and Little League International

J.D. Palatine (JDP), the preferred background check provider of Little League® Baseball and Softball, offers additional data sources to assist your league or district with deciding which volunteers to appoint, including the public U.S. Center for SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database and the Little League International Ineligible List.

As part of those continued efforts, Little League has updated and clarified the Child Protection Program heading into the 2021 season. One of the important updates that local leagues should be aware of is the changes to the background check regulation, Little League Regulation (1c)9:

“The background check must, at a minimum, meet the standard of a nationwide criminal search, a national sex offender registry search, and a review of the public U.S. Center for SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database and Little League International Ineligible List. Background checks conducted by JDP for local Little Leagues include all of the required database searches. Local leagues may utilize other background check providers but will need to confirm the provider’s ability to satisfy all of the above requirements for a complete search, which may require contacting the Little League International’s Security Manager to gain access to the Little League International Ineligible List.”

Leagues that utilize JDP do not need to request anything additional, these additional searches are part of the JDP National Criminal File Database.

Possible matches are reviewed by the JDP compliance team and researched for identifiers linking the record to the possible volunteer. If a volunteer is identified as being on one of the exclusion lists, the applicant will be flagged, and a report will be generated to show the offense information. Please see the sample report below.

JDP Exclusion List

Local leagues that are utilizing an outside background check provider should alert their providers of the changes so they can gain access to the Little League International Ineligible List and/or the public U.S. Center for SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database. The outside background check provider must contact the Little League International Security Manager to gain access to the Little League International Ineligible List. Local leagues can only gain access to the Little League International Ineligible List through their background check provider. If a background check provider is not able to gain access to the U.S. Center for public SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database the league is responsible for reviewing the database on the U.S. Center for SafeSport website.

For more information about this search capability, contact Little League International’s Security Manager; or 570-326-1921.
