Little League® International mourns the loss of longtime supporter of the program and recipient of the 1995 W. Howard Hartman Little League Friendship Award, John A. Troisi, who passed away on Wednesday, December 10, at the age of 91.
A Williamsport native, Troisi spent his life as a businessman within Lycoming County, starting his career in partnership with his father and brother at Troisi Menswear, where he took sole ownership in 1986. After the business closed in 1991, he later went on to serve as an employee at Beiter’s Home Center for 17 years before his retirement.
In addition to his professional career, Troisi was an eight-year United States Navy veteran, having served on active duty from 1955 through 1957.
An active member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, which included service as the first Chairman of the Parish Council, general chairman of the third St. Boniface Church building committee, a commentator, usher, and certified C.C.D. teacher, Troisi was also a fourth degree Knight of Columbus from 1958 until the time of his death.
Troisi was also very committed to the efforts within the county as a whole, serving as a member of the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee from 1986 through 1991, a member of the Williamsport/Lycoming Foundation Advisory Board from its inception, as well as a volunteer for the Williamsport/Lycoming United Way, serving many times as a loaned executive. A lifetime fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Troisi dedicated much of his time to supporting the Little League program, earning the award in 1995 in honor of his efforts. A proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Williamsport, he was named the “Kiwanian of the Year” in 1992, served as the longtime “Joke of the Day Teller” at their weekly meetings, and each year was proud to host in the organization’s “Ray Keyes Salute to Little League Baseball” luncheon, which has been joined by guests such as Julie Foudy and Todd Frazier. An avid photographer in his free time, Troisi also volunteered his services each August to provide photography support at the annual Little League Golf Classic, capturing the moments spent with Little League supporters and former MLB Hall of Famers during their time in Williamsport. Based on his support, in lieu of flowers for his passing, the Troisi family has requested that memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to Little League.
Surviving Troisi are a brother, James L. Troisi; sister, Helen Arney; daughter, Joi Ann Grande of New Castle, PA, and a son, Jeffrey A. Troisi of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. There are also three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
