Central Region: Virtual Umpire Clinic Session 2

Little League® International is offering on-line training for new umpires, with less than four years of experience beginning in the Fall of 2020.
This session will discuss how to effectively judge balls and strikes, as well as other responsibilities belonging to the home plate umpire. Description and explanation of proper plate umpire mechanics will be provided, including the positioning and the philosophy of why these techniques are used. Video and slide presentations, along with supporting commentary by the presenters will illustrate several common calls made by the plate umpire.
Session 2
Basic Plate Work
This session will focus on calling balls and strikes and other aspects of “plate umpiring”. Examples will be given of the positioning taught to Little League® Umpires as well as the philosophy of why these techniques are used. The use of videos, slide presentations and lecture we will illustrate the most common calls made by a plate umpire. The techniques and explanations presented will aid the newer umpire, those with less than four years of experience in becoming more consistent behind the plate.
