Latin America vs. Far East

Another game won with homerun
Latin America's catcher Jorge Colon struck out his first at-bat. He was overmatched.
Yet in the fifth inning, he got revenge when he belted a two out, two-run homerun to put the Latin America team up 3-1 over Osaka, Japan. Latin Amercia pitcher Jose Casanova then closed it out in the sixth with a 1-2-3 inning.
"It was the most important homerun I have ever hit," Colon said through an interpreter. "It was a curveball and I hit it good."
The homerun came off of Japanese pitcher Kazuki Sumiyama. He had the Latin America hitters baffled for most of the game, just making the one costly mistake in the fifth. His 11 strikeouts were very impressive for a number-three starter. "He pitched very well except for that one mistake," said Japanese Manager Tsutomu Kameyama through an interpreter.
The Japanese squad now has a 2-1 record in pool play and will play in the International Championship game barring any surprises. Latin America now has a 2-0 record and sits comfortably in first place in the international pool.

This was not an upset," said Latin America coach Luis Aponte. "We felt confident we could win."
It did get scary for the Latin America team when they got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth. A fly-out to right-fielder Xavier Galarza ended the inning with Japan scoring only one run.
