Canada vs. Latin America

Three-run sixth sparks Latin America victory
After two quick outs in the top of the sixth, Latin America scored three runs on two walks, an error, and two hits, including a bases-loaded double by Francisco de Jesus. The victory in front of 3,900 at Howard J. Lamade Stadium was also fueled by a third-inning, three-run home run by de Jesus.
"I felt like it was my responsibility to get those hits and drive in those runs," said de Jesus through an interpreter.
Well he came through by going two for four, driving in five runs, and scoring once.
For Canada, Mike Saunders pitched good baseball for four innings before coming out with a sore arm. His lone mistake was de Jesus three-run homerun. Jay King came into relieve Saunders and had the Latin America hitters baffled. His four walks didnt help the cause, though.
"I located my fastball and I changed speeds with my curveball, King said. This is just incredible to play in front of so many people."
For Latin America, Cristian Gonzalez pitched five and two-thirds innings. He had trouble in the second inning when giving up a two-run blast to Canadas Joel Craig. But in the next three innings, he faced only one batter past the minimum.
|

"I felt great on the hill," Gonzalez said. "There was no more pressure than usual."
With the win, Latin America goes to 1-0 while Canada falls to 0-2. Now were just focusing on letting the kids have fun and letting them enjoy the experience, said Coach Andy Orr.
