Behind Gillian Wernet's complete-game shutout, Aruba defeated Rapid City, S.D., 5-0, in a consolation game at the 2011 Little League Baseball World Series Monday afternoon.
Wernet threw 61 of his 80 pitches for strikes over six innings and struck out 12 batters while only allowing four hits.
Wernet also had a nice day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two singles and scoring a run.
The Caribbean champions gave him run support early after shortstop Albert Pop doubled to open the game, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Vaughn Bergen's groundball to second base.
Later in the inning after Wernet singled to centerfield, Giomir Leocadia hit him in from second with a single up the middle.
After scoring a run on a wild pitch in the third inning to give Aruba a three-run lead, Albert Pop capped the day off with a two-out, two-RBI single to left field in the fifth frame for the 5-0 win.
The contest was the first consolation game of the tournament, pitting two eliminated teams against each other. While these teams are no longer in contention for the championship, these consolation games ensure every team is given at least three games.
