Program Guidelines:

Suggested guidelines for local league in selecting award recipients
Local leagues should appoint a Selection Committee to review all candidates for the Volunteer of the Year, Good Sport of the Year, and Challenger Awards. (Leagues that are part of the Little League Urban Initiative should appoint a committee for the Howard and Gail Pastor Little League Urban Initiative Volunteer of the Year Award.) It is recommended that the Committee consist of Little League personnel as well as community leaders. This combination creates visibility and public awareness of this program. The following suggested members should be considered in addition to Little League personnel in forming your Selection Committee:

  • Mayor or local government officials
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • School official
  • Radio and TV personality
  • Parks and Recreation Director
  • Local newspaper - Sports Editor

The Selection Committee appointed by the local league board should review all nominees and select the league’s award recipients. Deadline for this selection is June 1. Once the local league selects the award recipients, the selections should be immediately forwarded to the Little League Headquarters for consideration as the respective national award recipient. A league may select and submit multiple recipients.

The Mom of the Year Award form should be photocopied and distributed to all Little Leaguers in the league. The children should fill out and send the completed form by June 1 to Little League Headquarters for their mother to be considered for selection as the national Mom of the Year.
