Municipal de Tijuana Little League to Represent Mexico at the 2013 Little League Baseball® World Series

Little League Baseball World Series 2013

The first representative from North America has won its way to South Williamsport and the 2013 Little League Baseball® World Series.

On Sunday, June 14, the Municipal de Tijuana Little League from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico won the Mexico Region Tournament in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, besting Beto Avila Little League from Boca del Rio, Veracruz, 11-5, in the championship game. This is the first time that Municipal de Tijuana Little League will send their Little Leaguers® to the Little League Baseball World Series, and the first time any team from Tijuana will make the trip to South Williamsport. It will be the 27th time a team from Mexico will compete in the World Series. In 1957, Monterrey, Mexico became the first international team to win the Little League Baseball World Series.

“Mexico has a special place in the 74-year history of Little League Baseball, and we’re excited to see a new chapter with Municipal de Tijuana this August in South Williamsport,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League® Baseball and Softball Senior Vice President and International Tournament Director.

Municipal de Tijuana went 5-1 in pool play to advance to the Mexico Region finals, which featured teams from 14 leagues. The champions averaged 11.74 runs during their eight games at the region tournament and outscored their opponents 94 to 21. Learn more about the Mexico Region Tournament.

The Mexico champion will face Australia Region Champion, Perth Metro Central Little League, in the first round of the 2013 Little League Baseball World Series on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium. Perth Metro Central made history when they won their championship, becoming the first team ever to advance to the Little League Baseball World Series from Australia. All games at the Little League Baseball World Series will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks and the Watch ESPN app.

The 67th Little League Baseball World Series begins on Thursday, Aug. 15 in South Williamsport, Pa., with the Championship Game scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25. For more information on the Series and to follow the action live, visit llbws.org.
