Calculating
batting
averages for
Little
Leaguers the
way they do
for Major
Leaguers
doesn’t make
sense. The
only “at-bats” that
count for a MLB player’s
average are
singles,
doubles,
triples and
homeruns.

Are You Ready
for Some
Baseball?
By Jim
Thompson
Just as we savor
those four sweet
words –
“pitchers and
catchers
report…” – it’s
nearly time to
start another
Little League
season. Are you
prepared?

As the
season
approaches, it is
that time of the
year to look at
purchasing new
equipment. One
of the questions
I get asked
quite often is
‘how do I know
what length bat
I should buy for
my daughter?
Here is an easy
way to determine
what size bat
will work for
your little ball

Regulation
VI - PITCHERS
(c) Note
1. Intentional
Walk:Before
a pitch is
delivered to the
batter, the
catcher must
inform the
umpire-in-chief
that the
defensive team
wishes to give
the batter an
intentional
base-on-balls.
The
umpire-in-chief
waves the batter
to first base.
Even though the
season is just
getting started
for many
leagues, now is
the perfect time
to start
thinking about
end-of-the-year
team
participation
awards and other
recognition.
Managers and
coaches
sometimes
organize this
aspect their
league’s
year-end
operations, but
many times it
falls to a team
mom or some
other adult
volunteer.

Better Coaches -
Better Games -
Better Leagues
By Scott Miller
Managers and
coaches are
among the most
important
volunteers in
the Little
League program.
They have to
know the game
and they have to
love working
with kids.
Leagues with
knowledgeable,
caring and
concerned
coaches have an
advantage when
it comes to
making the games
fun and
retaining
players.
