Little League International today mourns the passing of Hayden Walton, who died after an accident during a Junior League Baseball game in the Winslow (Ariz.) Little League.

“As a parent, the anguish over the loss of a child is incomprehensible,” Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball, said. “So words cannot adequately express our sorrow on the passing of Hayden. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Hayden’s family, all the players and volunteers of the Winslow Little League, his classmates, and his friends, at this difficult time.”

According to media reports, Hayden was struck in the chest on Tuesday by a pitched ball while he was batting, and he collapsed a few seconds later. He passed away later, at the hospital.
