The Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Earn Your Stripes™ program and ESPN.com have selected John Lopez of Arizona’s Palo Verde Little League as a finalist for the second annual Youth Achievement Award to be presented at the 2009 ESPY Breakfast. As one of four youth athletes chosen from the national contest, 12-year-old Lopez will be featured in an Earn Your Stripes Youth Achievement Award segment. This award was created to celebrate children who get out and work hard by playing their favorite sport. Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes selected the finalists based on an essay submission and phone interview process. The finalists were nominated from the Earn Your Stripes partner organizations: Little League Baseball and Softball, Girls on the Run International and Pop Warner Little Scholars. Beginning on May 18, 2009, a video of John playing Little League Baseball will be posted on the Earn Your Stripes ESPN hub, at: www.espn.com/earnyourstripes, along with videos from three other finalists. Featuring the finalists in their own sporting environments, the videos celebrate each athlete’s passion for his or her favorite sport. Watch the videos online and vote for your favorite finalist from May 18-to-June 15. At the end of the voting period, the finalist with the most votes will receive the Youth Achievement Award.
