Little League Museum to Host Fifth Annual Kid’s Day

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Mar. 1, 2007) – Dugout, Little League’s mascot, the Williamsport Crosscutters’ Rusty Roughcut and everyone’s furry “Red” friend from “Sesame Street” will be among the celebrity visitors to the Fifth Annual Kid’s Day at the Peter J. McGovern League Museum, 525 Route 15 Highway, South Williamsport.

The 2007 event, sponsored by Jersey Shore State Bank, Davis Beverage, Little League Baseball and Softball, and Comcast, will be March 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. That Saturday, children accompanied by an adult have the opportunity to visit the museum at no cost, and the first 200 families will receive a free four- or six-pack of Snapple, Glacea Vitamin water or Yoo Hoo chocolate drink compliments of Davis Beverage.

Dugout and his celebrity friends will be reading stories at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Magician Richard Benninghoff will showcase his slight of hand during a 2 p.m. show in the Mary McGovern Theatre. Cooking fun with Chef Hosh from Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport is set for 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Batting and pitching clinics are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with Chris Howard, a former catcher for the Seattle Mariners, and head baseball coach for the Pennsylvania College of Technology Wildcats.

“Kid’s Day is all about mixing fun with education for children throughout the Susquehanna Valley,” Jacque Bell, account executive at Comcast Spotlight and co-planner of the fifth annual event, said.

At least 16 agencies affiliated with children are scheduled to participate in the event. These non-profit groups offer services that benefit children, co-planner Lori Strimple, marketing manager for Jersey Shore State Bank, explained.

“This event has provided broad exposure to all the groups who participate and has produced great results along with plenty of smiles,” Mrs. Strimple said.

The agencies include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Lycoming County; Children’s Discovery Workshop; Child Evangelism Fellowship; Hemlock Girl Scout Council; Jersey Shore Hospital; James V. Brown Library; South Williamsport Kiwanis; The Williamsport Crosscutters; The Learning Center; Lycoming-Clinton Parent Child Home Program; Lycoming County SPCA; Pennsylvania Department of Health; Safe Kids; Susquehanna Health System; Susquehanna Council Boy Scouts of America; Comcast; Women-Infants-Children (WIC); YWCA; Little League International, and Jersey Shore State Bank.

Prizes include a Williamsport Crosscutters family fun pack valued at $500; a $250 Savings Bond from Jersey Shore State Bank Financial Services; tickets to see “Sesame Street Live” in March at Williamsport’s Community Arts Center, and a Little League Baseball World Series Championship weekend package, among others.

“We want to provide children with a safe, fun place to spend a cold winter day. Whether they participate in the story times, the magic show, or come to enjoy the other activities, we think there is something for everyone at this year’s Kid’s Day,” Mrs. Bell said.

The event has grown every year since its inception five years ago, Mrs. Bell said. Last year more than 1,600 people attended the festivities.
