Joe Crookham, President of Musco Sports Lighting, Honored at Little League Baseball World Series
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Aug. 25, 2007) –
The Little League President’s Award was presented to Joe Crookham,
president of Musco Sports Lighting and a member of the Little
League Foundation, during the annual A Safety Awareness Plan
(ASAP) breakfast held Saturday at the Genetti Hotel in
Williamsport.
The President’s Award is typically presented every three years at
the triennial Little League International Congress. Mr. Crookham,
one of the creators of Little League’s ASAP (A Safety Awareness
Plan) program, was unable to attend the 24th Congress held earlier
this year in Houston, Texas. First presented in 1987, the
President’s Award recipient is chosen by the president and chief
executive officer of Little League Baseball and Softball.
“Joe helped to develop the ASAP program, and continues to be a
significant supporter and safety advocate for children playing
Little League,” Stephen D. Keener, president and chief executive
officer of Little League Baseball and Softball, said. “With Joe’s
guidance and leadership, Little League has established a program
that is unparalleled in its attention to the health and safety of
its participants. The involvement of Musco as a corporate partner,
coupled with Joe’s personal support and appreciation for the
Little League program, makes him a worthy recipient of this
award.”
Started in 1995, ASAP encourages Little League volunteers to
submit details of successful safety programs that have been
adopted in their league for publication nationwide. The program
enables local leagues to share concepts and methods of addressing
safety issues, providing possible solutions to safety concerns.
Since the inception of the ASAP program, the number of injuries
reported has been reduced by 76 percent.
A native of Oskaloosa, and graduate of the University of Iowa, Mr.
Crookham has been a trustee of the Little League Foundation since
1997. He also chairs several boards, and is a board member of the
National Park Foundation and National Recreation and Park
Association.
Since 1976, Musco Sports Lighting has specialized in the design
and manufacture of systems for lighting recreation and athletic
fields, including Lamade and Volunteer Stadiums at Little League
International. Headquartered in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Musco has offices
in several locations throughout the U.S., and abroad. It is
recognized as a world-class leader in sports lighting.
Past recipients of the President’s Award include: Ted Ferreira
(1987); Robert W. Fiondella (1989); Russ Tinsley (1992); Jose
Gonzales (1995); Bob Kloss (1998): Mike Lantierre (2001); and Greg
Bzura (2004).
Little League Baseball and Softball is the world’s largest
organized youth sports program, with nearly 2.7 million players
and 1 million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and scores of
other countries. |
