LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES ALUMNUS SEAN BURROUGHS, TEAM USA, WIN OLYMPIC GOLD
Mr. Burroughs led the Long Beach (Calif.) Little League team to back-to-back world championships in 1992 and ’93, pitching two no-hitters during the 1993 tournament and striking out 16 in each game. His 8-0 blanking of Bedford, N.H., on Aug. 26, 1993, was the most recent no-hitter in Little League World Series play. The ninth overall pick in the 1998 June Free Agent Draft by the San Diego Padres, Mr. Burroughs became a third baseman after his Little League days. He is the son of 1974 American League Most Valuable Player Jeff Burroughs, who coached the Long Beach Little League teams in the Little League World Series. Little League is the world’s largest youth sports organization, with 2.9 million players in all 50 states and 103 other countries. The Little League Baseball World Series is the culmination of the world’s largest youth sports tournament, with about 16,000 games played worldwide in the 40 days leading up to the Series in Williamsport.
