Little League U.S. Champions Honored During Yankees-Marlins World SeriesEvent was the latest in long series of tributes
The team took part in the first-pitch ceremony, then settled in for the game as guests of a local businessman. The team also was honored during a regular season Florida Marlins game at Pro Player Stadium earlier. Among other tributes the team received after returning home: They met President George W. Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; they were recognized at a Miami Dolphins game; and the Florida House of Representatives voted unanimously on a resolution commemorating the team’s accomplishments. The resolution was co-sponsored by Delray Beach Representatives Anne Gannon and Adam Hasner. Participants in the various World Series tournaments of Little League Baseball and Softball are accustomed to honors that have included visits to the White House, ticker-tape parades in New York City, and ceremonies at major sporting events. |
