Little League Mourns the Passing of Philanthropist Carl Cadonau, Sr.
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 25, 2004) -- Carl Cadonau, who welcomed
Little League to his hometown of Portland, Ore., each August since
1994 as resident host of the Girls Little League Softball World
Series, passed away on June 21. Mr. Cadonau, a local benefactor and
philanthropist, was the founder of Alpenrose Dairy Farm. He was 81.
The Cadonau family turned their dairy business -- in operation
since 1916 -- into a community institution servicing the area in many
ways. Alpenrose Field, site of the Girls Little League Softball World
Series, was constructed in the 1950s along with other baseball fields
and has been open to generations of Little Leaguers.
Mr. Cadonau is survived by his wife, Virginia Mae, two sons,
Randall and Carl; daughters Barbara and Anita, nine grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.
