152Fenway Cape Cod Makes Dreams A Reality For Tee Ballers

Children throughout Cape Cod will soon get to live one of their biggest baseball dreams thanks to Barnstable Little League and The Boston Red Sox. May 6, when the new Little League® Tee Ball season opens, it will do so on a brand new field. But this isn’t just any new field. It’s a little slice of history and dreams right in Horace Mann Public Charter School’s backyard. Fenway Cape Cod, as it will be officially named, will be a built-to-size version of Boston’s Fenway Park. Construction has already started with the opening slated to come in time for the 2017 season.
152Little League® Representatives from Europe and Africa Gather for Regional Meeting

On October 8, more than 25 volunteers, including District Administrators from 20 countries across Europe and Africa, gathered together for the 2016 Europe and Africa Regional Meeting in Warsaw, Poland, supported by the Copernicus Society of America. Along with Little League® Europe and Africa Regional Staff members, members of Major League Baseball, Confederation of European Baseball, and European Softball Federation participated in the meetings to provide insight on the various topics.

Little League® International announced the addition of six new members to the International Advisory Board who visited the Little League International Complex in South Williamsport, Pa., on October 14 and 15 for the annual fall meeting. Joining the Advisory Board in 2016 are Kelly Campbell (Southwestern Region), Carmine Conti (Eastern Region), Martin Hoover (Western Region), Michael Marler (Southwestern Region), Eric Pearson (Southeastern Region), and Steve Parris (Latin America Region), who all serve as volunteer District Administrators (D.A.s).

Throughout last season, I was one of those parents who regularly complained. I wasn’t over-the-top at all, and tried to act as courteous and professional as I could. That said, I expressed my feelings whenever I thought it was necessary. And, I thought it was necessary quite often. I shared my thoughts on how I didn’t care for the younger kids using a pitching machine, how I didn’t think it was right to ask parents to fundraise on top of the registration fee, how the concession stand didn’t include more healthy options, how the grass needed to get cut more often, and how the older uniforms should be replaced.

Ryan Teixeira, a baseball player at Colorado Mesa University who served as a volunteer buddy for the Grand Junction (Colo.) Little League Challenger Division® team at the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series Challenger Exhibition Game, is currently facing a challenge of his own as he was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia following his trip to South Williamsport this August. For Mr. Teixeira, a native of Pismo Beach, Calif., the diagnosis marks the second form of cancer he has had to battle in the last two years.
