At the spring meeting of the Little League® International Board of Directors, Steven P. Johnson, Susquehanna Health President and CEO, was elected to the Board. Mr. Johnson, of Williamsport, Pa., takes the seat vacated after the retirement of Dr. Creighton J. Hale. Dr. Hale, former Little League President and CEO, has served as a Little League staff or Board member for 60 years. The announcement was made at the 26th Little League International Congress in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 7, 2014.

“Dr. Hale’s years of dedicated service has helped shape the Little League program into the world’s largest and most respected youth sports organization,” said Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour, Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “We are looking forward to having Steve’s expertise and leadership on the Board of Directors to help shape the future of Little League.”

Mr. Johnson has been an administrator within the Susquehanna Health for 30 years, first hired as Director of Personnel for Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center in 1984. He has served in various roles within the Williamsport, Pa.-based healthcare system, including Vice President of Operations. In 2004, he was named Susquehanna Health’s President and CEO. He previously served in various leadership roles for Lycoming County Children and Youth Services while completing Army basic training, Officer Candidate School and the infantry officer basic training program.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Little League International Board of Directors,” said Mr. Johnson. “Susquehanna Health and Little League have worked closely together for years, and I am excited to work with the Board and staff to continue to enhance the safety of the 2.4 million Little Leaguers around the world, both on and off the field”

Susquehanna Health is the sports medicine provider for the Little League Baseball® World Series. Their Sports Medicine team serves as the medical training staff, taking care of the players on the 16 Little League Baseball teams that compete in South Williamsport each summer. Susquehanna Health is the parent company of a four hospital faith-based integrated delivery system located in north central Pennsylvania.

Keener, Little League President and CEO. “He is a longtime friend of the program, and his years of experience with the healthcare industry will provide valuable insight on how we can continue to enhance the Little League experience for our millions of players and volunteers around the world.”

Mr. Johnson also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospital and Health Systems Association of Pennsylvania and is past chairman of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Johnson holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Marywood University and a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Lycoming College. He and his wife Mary Ann are the proud parents of two adult children and four grandchildren.
