Since 2005, Little League® and Pitch In For Baseball have been partners in helping children around the world get new and gently used baseball and softball equipment. Honoring this nearly 10-year friendship, Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO, presented Pitch In For Baseball with the President’s Award at the 26th Little League International Congress in Minneapolis, Minn. On hand to accept the recognition were Roy Smalley, former Minneapolis Twins player and Pitch In For Baseball Board of Directors President, and David Rhode, Pitch In For Baseball Executive Director.

“Before our partnership with Pitch In For Baseball, it was challenging for Little League to support local players with donations of equipment and gear,” said Mr. Keener. “It has been wonderful to work with David and the entire Pitch In For Baseball crew, as they have done tremendous work in keeping so many children playing Little League around the world.”

As Little League celebrates its 75th Anniversary, one major initiative, the Little League Big Legacy Project, will support the future work of Pitch In For Baseball. All current and former Little League players, parents, volunteers and fans are encouraged to upload their photo or Little League memory at LittleLeagueBigLegacy.com. These moments will create a digital mosaic that celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Little League. For every moment uploaded, Little League is donating $1 up to $50,000, to Pitch In For Baseball.

“We are extremely grateful to Little League for this award,” said Mr. Rhode. “We have had a wonderful partnership since we founded Pitch In For Baseball, and we’re looking forward to giving many more children around the world a Little League experience thanks to their generous donation through the Little League Big Legacy Project.”

Since 2005, Pitch In For Baseball has led 117 projects to help local Little League programs in 30 states, including assisting six leagues in the Little League Urban Initiative program. In addition to their work in the United States, Pitch In For Baseball has supported 49 projects in 27 countries around the world, helping children in international communities enjoy a Little League experience. Some projects that Little League and Pitch In For Baseball have worked on together include assistance for leagues impacted by Superstorm Sandy in 2012, the donation of equipment to leagues developing in Africa and India, providing support for local communities impacted by natural disasters and many more.

In 2013 alone, Pitch In For Baseball directly helped more than 12,000 Little Leaguers in 30 local Little League programs in New York and New Jersey impacted by Superstorm Sandy, donating nearly $250,000 in baseball and softball equipment.
