Shaina Reed kept Delaware District 3 off the board during her eight innings of work and East from Delaware District 1 beat the defending, host champions, 1-0.

Reed struck out seven and allowed one walk and seven hits.

Cassetty Howerin pushed East ahead, in the eighth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. After Whitney DiMora walked, an RBI double by Howerin scored DiMora.

Regan Green ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just eight innings, walked one, struck out seven, and allowed one run.

Last year, Delaware District 3, the hosts of the Big League Softball World Series, won the World Series, besting Puerto Rico District 1, the Latin America Region Champions. This was the second year in a row that the tournament has been held in conjunction with the Senior League Softball World Series in Lower Sussex, Del. The tournaments, which both wrapped up on Saturday, Aug. 9, are one of the premier softball tournaments in the world. Indiana District 11 won the 2014 Senior League Softball World Series.
