Texas East Champion, Pearland East's three first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home a 7-3 win over Louisiana State Champion, South Lake Charles LL on Wednesday, August 6, at Norcross Stadium in Waco, Texas at the George W. Bush Little League Southwestern Leadership Training Center.
This is the second time in the 68-year history of the Little League Baseball® World Series that a team from Pearland, Texas, has advance to South Williamsport, Pa. The team that came to the Little League Baseball World Series in 2010 had Don Smith as their coach, Mr. Smith will be returning to the World Series, this year he’s the team manager. In 2010, he coached his son, Hunter, while his son Presley plays on the team that is World Series-bound in 2014. Pearland East will be the 21st team from Texas to advance to the Little League Baseball World Series.
Pearland East scored in the first on a two-run double by Layne Roblyer and a bases loaded walk by Joshua Gabino.
Roblyer racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Southwest Region Champions.
Pearland couldn't get anything going so long as Payton Whitehead was on the hill. They managed just two hits off of Whitehead, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Matthew Adams got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over five innings. Adams struck out four, walked three and gave up five hits.
Andrew Guillory took the loss for Louisiana. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked five and struck out three.
Three runs in the bottom of the fourth helped South Lake Charles LL close its deficit to 6-3. An RBI double by Mauri Miller, an RBI double by Aaron Young, and an RBI single by Chandler Ware sparked their rally. Chase Ardoin flew out to end the threat.
