Little League® Urban Initiative Jamboree Comes to Lancaster, Pennsylvania
One of nine Little League Urban Initiative Jamborees being held throughout the United States this spring, participants in the Pennsylvania State Jamboree will take part in a weekend of games and other special events at no cost to their local league. The Little Leaguers® will also be the guests of the Lancaster Barnstormers when play the Sugar Land Skeeters at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Sunday, May 26.
“Memorial Day Weekend and baseball just go together,” said Demiko Ervin, Little League Urban Initiative Program Director. “We’re excited that we can give these baseball players an opportunity to get together in the home state of Little League for a few days of camaraderie and competition.”
Games at the Pennsylvania Urban Initiative Jamboree begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, and run throughout the day. They resume play at the same time on Sunday, May 26. At the end of the weekend, all the participants will leave with a lifetime of memories, and one team will own the championship banner. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Monday, May 27. Learn more about this year’s Urban Initiative Jamborees.Established in 1999, the Little League Urban Initiative provides financial and educational assistance to local leagues in order to give all children, even those in disadvantaged neighborhoods, a chance to play baseball and softball. The Little League Urban Initiative has helped establish more than 300 leagues where there are more than 52,000 kids playing on upwards of 4,000 teams within urban environments.
“We are excited to host these children at Lancaster Little League this weekend,” said Audra Landers, Lancaster Little League President and Pennsylvania Urban Initiative Jamboree Co-Director. “There are a lot of children from areas in need that will never get a chance to play baseball in a tournament atmosphere like the Little League World Series. We are thrilled to provide that opportunity through the Little League Urban Initiative Jamboree.”
