Little League® Baseball and Softball will hold its Northwest Urban Initiative Jamboree at Lents Park in Portland, Ore. May 31-June 2. One of nine Urban Initiative Jamborees being held throughout the United States this year, it is the second of two jamborees focused on softball, the first was the Northern California Jamboree in Stockton, Calif., from May 17-19.

The girls participating in the Northwest Jamboree will take part in a weekend of games and other special events at no cost to their local league. Crystl Bustos, two-time Olympic gold medalist with Team USA softball, will lead an instructional clinic for the attending Little Leaguers, as well.

“When you think Little League Softball, you think Portland, Ore., home of the Little League Softball World Series” said Georgia Herr, Oregon District 2 Administrator. “Lents Little League has been serving the children of Portland for 60 years, and we’re excited to host these players from Oregon and Washington, and give them a chance to compete against their peers from the Northwest. The added benefit of having Crystl here gives these ladies a great opportunity to improve their game and imagine possibilities. She knows what it’s like to grow up with challenges and yet be successful in softball and in life. It would be difficult to have a better teacher of the game than Ms. Bustos.”

Ms. Bustos is an avid supporter of the Little League Urban Initiative. A native of Canyon Country, Calif., she helped the U.S. Olympic softball team win the gold medal in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. She also holds the record for most home runs during an Olympic series with six. A Little League veteran, Ms. Bustos is a much sought-after clinician and speaker as a part of her GotBustos? LLC Sports Training.

At the end of the weekend, all the participants will leave with a lifetime of memories, and one team will win the championship banner. Games begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 31 and continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. The Jamboree Awards Presentation will be held on Saturday, June 1 at 12:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.
