Little League International Mourns the Passing of Billy Gurganious, President of North Carolina’s Myrtle Grove Optimist, Wilmington Little League

Billy Gurganious

 

Billy Gurganious, President of Myrtle Grove Optimist, Wilmington Little League in Wilmington, N.C., passed away on Feb. 14. He was 75.

A native of Pender County,N.C., Mr. Gurganious was a local Little League volunteer for 55 years and served as a Myrtle Grove Optimist, Wilmington Little League President for several years.

He worked for the City of Wilmington at The Sweeney Water Plant for 42 years.

In 2012, a ball field at Veteran’s Park in Wilmington, was named in his honor for his dedication and many years of service. Mr. Gurganious also was an avid gardener, who grew food that fed not only his family, but others in the city.

Mr. Gurganious is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda;his brother, Bobby Gurganious; his sister, Shirley Connor; five sons, Dean,Gene, Keith, Chris, and John; one daughter, Tammy; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
