John Edgerle Nominated to Represent Central Region on Little League International Board of Directors

Little League’s Central Region has nominated one of its members for election to the Little League International Board of Directors, it was announced today by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. The election took place recently in a vote by the region’s District Administrators.

John Edgerle, of Wyoming, Mich., will replace Linda Sanfilippo, from Romeoville, Ill., on the board when her term expires in Nov. 2013. His nomination will be presented for approval at the Little League International Board of Directors spring meeting in April 2013.

Nine Field Directors, one from each of the nine Little League Baseball and Softball regions, hold seats on the board.

“John has been a Little League volunteer for more than 25 years, and the Little League experience under his leadership has been positive and prosperous throughout Michigan District 9,” Mr. Keener said. “With his energy and commitment, particularly to the direction of the softball program, and to the broader mission of Little League, we look forward to his contributions as a member of the board.

Mr. Edgerle, a father of three (two daughters and a son - all Little League graduates), has been associated with Little League for 26 years. He spent his first two decades at the local league level, serving as a league president. His wife, Kathy is a tenured Little League volunteer and currently serves on her husband’s district staff as Assistant District Administrator for softball.

At the district level, Mr. Edgerle was elected as Michigan District 9 Administrator in 1994, but continued to serve as the President of Pinery Park Little League until 2004. For the past 19 years, he has overseen the operation of 24 leagues and 31 charters, growing the district by 10 leagues. In Michigan District 9, softball is well-represented, with 30 charters offering softball. The Challenger Division for children with physical or mental challenges also has a presence with two programs.

During his tenure, Mr. Edgerle attended five Little League International Congresses, and served several years on the Central Region Advisory Committee. Since 1998, Pinery Park Little League has hosted to the Big League Baseball Central Region Tournament, and until this year also was the location of the Central Region’s Big League Softball Tournament (2001-12).

“I am enthusiastic about serving on the Little League International Board of Directors,” Mr. Edgerle, a retired automobile salesman, said. “I am motivated to contribute and offer my insight, as best I can. My hope is to represent the Central Region district administrators who supported me for this position in a way that will honor and best serve the organization.”

In 2012, in the Central Region, there were 402,675 Little League (baseball and softball) players on 26,851 teams in 13 states.

Little League Baseball and Softball is the world’s largest organized youth sports program, with more than 2.4 million players and one million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and scores of other countries. The Little League International Board of Directors, a volunteer board, is responsible for the management of the property and affairs of Little League.
