Big League Softball World Series Begins Wednesday

The 2012 Big League Softball World Series, featuring nine teams from around the world, begins Wednesday with two games at 6 p.m. The World Series is played in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Each team in the nine-team field will play one game against each of the other teams during round-robin play. The top two teams after round-robin play will meet in the championship game on Aug. 8.

Teams in the Big League Softball World Series field include:

  • District 17/Pennsylvania (East Region champion)
  • District 9/Michigan (Central Region champion)
  • District 9/Florida (Southeast Region champion)
  • District 2/Michigan (Host); District 1/San Juan
  • Puerto Rico (Latin America Region champion)
  • District 1/Philippines (Asia-Pacific Region champion)
  • District 37/California (West Region champion)
  • District 22/Alice, Texas (Southwest Region champion)
  • District 5/Windsor, Ontario (Canada Region champion)

The Big League Softball World Series for players, ages 14-to-18, will be played Aug. 1-8. On Wednesday, Aug. 8, the Big League Softball World Series Championship game will be televised lived on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time.
